1. What criteria do you think is important in selecting a charity?
2. How can you find a good charity?
3. Does the money and the service both have to go to the same charity?
No. They money and the service does not have to go to the same charity. They can go to the same one or the money can go to one and the service to another. You cannot divide the money. It all has to go to a primary charity but you can split the service up where some of the proceeds go to the primary charity and some to another. 4. Where can you find appropriate charities?
A non-profit organization should be tax-exempt. You should also make sure that the charitable donations do not all go the the employees but instead to whatever the charity is helping. An example could be with our Company, we made sure that the majority of the donations were going towards helping the working poor and families with children and elderly in the cold winter months and not going toward salaries and overhead expenses.
5. Who in Warrensburg can give names of local charities?
Here in Warrensburg there are several places you can go to find out what local charities are located within or around the surrounding area. Many churches will have lists of local charities in need, UCM has a place on campus you can go to find out what type of work is needing to be done. If necessary you can take the route of the Internet and search online for local area charities. I went online and found a list of local charities in the Warrensburg and Johnson County area. This link will take you to that website.
6. What will you find in the Service Fair?
A Service Fair gives local charities in need of an opportunity to show the students and faculty of UCM what they are all about, what they are needing, and ways to help out. You might find it to be overwhelming but just take it one table at a time. A suggestion would be to take a note pad and pen to write notes. The people at the tables are more willing to answer any questions you may have. They will also have pamphlets, business cards, pens, stickers, etc. to hand out. This link will take you to the UCM website where it gives a little more detail about who will be at the service fair.
7. In selecting a charity, what questions would you suggest a future IBE Service company ask the charity's director?
8. What is the biggest challange to the IBE Service officer: How did they meet that challenge?
The biggest challenge to the IBE service officer is getting the entire company involved. As the IBE service officer, Central Warmth calls this position the Service Project Manager; I find it hardest to get the other members of the company excited about service opportunities. 9. Explanation of Project Warmth (our chosen charity)
We at Central Warmth decided to donate our money and time to the 25th annual Project Warmth campaign, sponsored by The Kansas City Star and KCTV5. Project Warmth's main purpose is to help those in need during the cold winter months. Since its inception in 1982, Project Warmth has collected more than 1,862 tons of food, clothing and blankets, along with over $7 million for area residents. 10. How do I leave a lasting impact?
Ask yourself and the company what will best fit your product. This can be a good way to sell your product.
11. Does your charity have administrative costs?
Many charities have costs that do not go towards the charity, but are used to pay people that run the organization. It is a good idea to search the internet and look for a charity with low administrative costs. Here is a link that might be helpful in finding out whether or not a charity has low administrative costs.
